Preparing to Receive a Disclosure (with my therapist)
A formal disclosure session is structured, and you prepare for it with your own therapist. This sheet helps you get ready - emotionally and practically - and care for yourself before, during, and after. The disclosure itself is facilitated by trained therapists, and every therapist and situation is a little different.
You prepare with support: The disclosure is structured and therapist-facilitated, and you get ready with your own therapist. There's no single 'right' way - it varies by therapist and situation.

- [ ] I know I can pause or stop at any point
- [ ] I have a support person lined up for afterward

Receiving and deciding are two separate steps: You do not have to decide the future of the relationship at or right after the disclosure. Receiving the truth and deciding what to do with it are two separate steps.

Go in supported, go slow: Receiving hard truth takes courage. Go in supported, take it at your pace, and let your therapist and your people help you carry it.

- Receiving the Truth: Formal Disclosure, On Your Terms, from Healing After Betrayal. The chaotic way you found out is not the same as a prepared disclosure - one you have the right to receive, on terms you help set.
- Riding the Waves: Triggers & Emotional Regulation, from Healing After Betrayal. Betrayal triggers fling you into panic or numbness, and intrusive thoughts are normal.
- Your Impact Letter: Putting the Harm Into Your Own Words, from Healing After Betrayal. After the truth is told, your voice matters - a structured way to name what happened, how it hit you, and what you need now.
